Moving to India

In 2009 I left the US "on a jet plane" headed for Delhi. I was quite nervous that the flight would take *forever* since I was anxious to get there. Having not slept the night before, I was assuming that I would sleep the whole flight, but not so, I think I got about 4-5 hours of sleep max. I watched movies, and talked to those in the seats next to me. When I arrived in Delhi I was anxious and nervous to be finally meeting him for the first time.

  1. You are brave woman moving to new country to get married to a man you never met face to face before

Did you ever consider the risks? what happens if he did not not turn out to be what you expected of him.

I am glad it worked out for you and I wish long married life. Do you plan to live in India after marriage. If you do then do you plan to live with your in-laws.

  2. well...I had a round trip ticket, I had purchased earlier when it was *supposed* to be a 2 1/2 week trip, so if he turned out to be something I didn't expect, I would make him pay for the hotel for the time and then I would return home. :)

I am, and have been for the last year and half, living with his parents. We plan to move out when I start working, sometime next year :)

  5. When you start working why would you want to move out. That is time you want support of your in laws. When you come home you will have hot home cooked meal, house well cleaned, clothes washed and folded etc..

Then there is a issue of freedom and privacy.........

Too close for comfort. Safe distance is required for long term healthy relationship with in-laws.

  6. Yes, while there are good points to living with one's family, it is not something that I am accustomed to, even after a year. I would like to have my own space. :)
